Alex Poythress, who made the D-League All-Star Game this season as a rookie out of Kentucky, has been signed by Philadelphia of the NBA.
That's great news for Poythress, as it's his first NBA signing, but the timing couldn't have been much worse for the Mad Ants.
They play their regular-season finale at Memorial Coliseum at 7 p.m. today against the Canton Charge, with the winner getting the third seed for the Eastern Conference playoffs.
And they open the postseason 7 p.m. Tuesday against either league-best Raptors 905 or Atlantic Division-champion Maine.
At least the Indiana Pacers sent Georges Niang to the Mad Ants on Friday. The pressure will really be on Tyler Hansbrough now to lock down the paint for Fort Wayne.
Poythress, who was signed because the 76ers got an injury exemption, joins Jarrod Uthoff and Ben Bentil as players who have been signed from Fort Wayne by NBA teams this season. Uthoff is with the Dallas Mavericks. Bentil, who had also been with the Mavericks, is back with the Mad Ants.
