I would like to respond to Daniel Gray’s letter, “Many don’t want health insurance” (Nov. 12), especially the part about uninsured Americans.
In the state of Indiana, our children are taken care of by the Medicaid system in one way or another.
Yes, no one can be turned away from a hospital when it’s an emergency. Unfortunately, however, there is always a bill to pay when they are better. No one gets free medical care. There are so many of us uninsured Americans, young, middle-aged and older who cannot afford health insurance. It is not an issue of refusing it. We cannot afford it.
There is a fine financial line between applying for Medicaid or Medicare. If you make too much, you don’t qualify. So do you work fewer hours to qualify? Meanwhile, your family doesn’t eat tonight or have gas or light in the house.
I am glad Gray lives on a golden cloud and can spout facts and figures. But I need to go to work now and provide for my family.
