Bishop Luers sophomore DeShaun Thomas and Co. opened their boys basketball season in impressive fashion Saturday with a 90-41 home win over Mishawaka Marian.
Thomas, the state’s second-leading scorer last year, had 29 points.
Bishop Luers (1-0) is tied for second in the latest Class 2A poll.
Junior Lawrence Barnett had 14 points and freshman Evan Blackmon added 12.
The Knights’ season opener was delayed because of the football team’s playoff run that culminated Nov. 23 in the 2A state championship.
SOUTH SIDE 77, MISHAWAKA 52: Tracy Underwood and Lamont Prosser each scored 22 points for the visiting Archers. Jermichael Williams added 14.
SOUTH BEND ADAMS 86, ELMHURST 80, 2OT: The visiting Eagles outscored the Trojans 12-6 in the second overtime to pick up the win.
Marquel Bright scored 15 points to lead Elmhurst.
LEO 46, GARRETT 43: The host Lions handed the defending ACAC champion Railroaders their first loss of the season.
Jordan Robbins and Alexis Meeks had 10 points each for Leo (5-2, 2-0 ACAC). Meeks added 10 rebounds, and Robbins had four steals and three assists.
Garrett (6-1, 1-1) got 11 points from Lindsey Yarde.
WOODLAN 48, ADAMS CENTRAL 39: Hannan Koenneman had 13 points and 15 rebounds to lead the visiting Warriors past the Jets.
Kayla Foreman had 13 points for Adams Central.
ELMHURST 66, BISHOP DWENGER 46: Lacia Gorman led the visiting Trojans with 13 points.
Lecretia Smith had 12 and Teirenney Fincher added 11 as Elmhurst outscored Dwenger 45-29 in the second half.
SOUTH SIDE 64, NORTHROP 34: The host Archers outscored the Bruins 23-4 in the fourth quarter to put an exclamation point on their SAC-opening win.
Shavonda Price and Sydney Weinert led South Side with 16 points each. Simone Swary had 17 points for Northrop.
CONCORDIA 57, WAYNE 24: The Cadets ran out to a 20-2 first-quarter lead and cruised to a win in their SAC opener.
Alissa Goeglein had 19 points and seven rebounds for Concordia (2-3, 1-0).
Wayne (1-5, 0-2) got 18 points from Janorie Weenes.
COLUMBIA CITY 47, CARROLL 37: The visiting Eagles made 14 of 19 free throws, including 9 of 12 in the fourth, to hold off defending the co-NHC champion Chargers.
Ali Felger had 17 points for Carroll.
