INDIANAPOLIS – Riverboat gambling wont be coming to northeast Indiana anytime soon.
The Senate Appropriations Committee amended Senate Bill 135 Thursday morning to remove language moving a riverboat from Gary to Steuben County.
Instead, the amended bill would have authorized November 2008 referendums in Steuben County and the city of Fort Wayne on whether the communities would permit riverboat gaming in the future.
But Sen. Robert Meeks, R-LaGrange – the author of the bill and chairman of the committee – did not receive the necessary second on his motion to move the legislation forward.
Thursday is the committee deadline for bills to advance, so the legislation is now dead for the session.
