Notre Dame sophomore tight end Will Yeatman has been suspended indefinitely because of a violation of team rules, the school announced Tuesday.

According to the South Bend Tribune, Yeatman was arrested Jan. 28, accused of driving while intoxicated. He posted $500 bond and was released the same day, the Tribune said.

Yeatman, 19, also an All-American candidate in lacrosse, has been suspended from both sports.

The 6-foot-6, 264-pounder had six catches for 37 yards for the football team last season, but was set to compete for the vacant starting tight end slot.

In lacrosse, the San Diego native scored 21 goals and had a team-high 25 assists in his rookie year.

Irish lacrosse coach Kevin Corrigan told Inside Lacrosse that Yeatman will not play in Notre Dame’s season opener against Loyola on Feb. 16.

A message left on Yeatman’s cell phone was not immediately returned.

A month ago, Yeatman said that during Notre Dame’s 3-9 football season he had points where he became excited for lacrosse season early.

“When you’re 1-5 and end the season 3-9, it’s hard not to want to get that over with and get on with the next thing, if you know what I mean,” Yeatman said in January. “There were absolutely times. I’d by lying if I said that there weren’t. And I think anyone would understand that.

“It was absolutely different because a lot of the football guys have spring ball to look forward to, where I have a full season of another sport to look forward to where I try to reconcile the disappointment from football and give Notre Dame a good reputation on the lacrosse field.”
