Candidates to become the Fort Wayne Philharmonic’s next music director will have a public audition, of sorts, during a concert series next season underwritten by Lincoln Financial Foundation.
Five of the eight finalists to replace outgoing music Director Edvard Tchivzhel will conduct one of the upcoming Spectrum Series concerts sponsored by Lincoln Foundation, as well as one of the Philharmonic’s Masterworks concerts. The remaining three hopefuls will direct a Masterworks performance as well as one of the performances in the Philharmonic’s Unplugged Series.
Lincoln Foundation’s grant also will help underwrite the Philharmonic’s Ensembles in the Schools program, which brings small musical ensembles into classrooms in 13 counties, introducing elementary through high school-age youths to classical music through 350 performances each year. Students from kindergarten through fourth grade attend performances by string, brass and percussion ensembles, after which they are introduced to full orchestra performances.
