It's official. Notre Dame is moving to the Big East in men's lacrosse.
The only difference from the initial report we saw a couple days ago is that the new league will start in 2010 instead of 2009 because of Syracuse's schedule as an independent.
Seven schools will be in the new league, including the national champion Orange.
For the game of lacrosse, this is a good thing because the Big East will be the first BCS conference to have a lacrosse league. The ACC has one, but with only four teams, does not have an automatic NCAA bid. Usually it doesn't matter, though, as all four ACC schools (UNC, Duke, Maryland and Virginia) are in the NCAA hunt.
For Notre Dame, it'll be a chance to be competitive immediately in the new league as the top tier should quickly establish itself as Syracuse, Georgetown and the Irish.
