U.S. Soccer released its 18-member women's Olympic team Monday and to little surprise, two former Notre Dame players will head to China.
Kate (Sobrero) Markgraf, a defender, will be in her third Olympics. Midfielder Shannon Boxx made her second Olympic team.
Boxx and Markgraf played together with the Irish -- Boxx graduating in 1999 and Markgraf a year earlier. In the 2004 Games, Boxx scored the United States' first goal and started all six games.
Markgraf will likely be one of the leaders of this team as she and Christie Rampone are the only two U.S. players heading to their third Games.
