Man, This Video Is Old

By Michael Rothstein
The Journal Gazette
High Tech 1935 video

No Rockford Peaches here, but watching this video -- go ahead, click on it -- reminds us of the movie "A League of Their Own." The grainy footage. The odd stretching drills (Hey, maybe Ruben Mendoza could learn from this). The mass of players punting footballs and pushing wood.

It advertises itself as footage from Notre Dame's spring practice in 1935. Except for one problem: The four players the voice lists aren't in the Notre Dame media guide as letter winners. And they aren't on the 1935 roster that is in the 2002 media guide, which has actual stars like Bill Shakespeare.

So beware Notre Dame football fans. This video -- at least the voice -- could very well be fake.

The Journal Gazette's Assistant Sports Editor Tony Krausz covers The University of Notre Dame. Krausz, a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism and a native of St. Louis, has been assistant sports editor since October 2005. Prior to joining the JG, he worked at two papers in Mississippi covering high school and college athletics.
