Report: Notre Dame picks Swarbrick for AD spot

After a month and a half, Notre Dame’s search for a new athletic director appears to be over with an unfamiliar name surfacing at the top.

Indianapolis attorney John “Jack” Swarbrick is expected to be named the new Irish AD this week, according to a report in the Chicago Tribune.

Swarbrick will replace Kevin White, who left to become the Duke athletic director in May.

Swarbrick is a 1976 graduate of Notre Dame and received his law degree from Stanford in 1980. Currently a partner at Baker & Daniels in Indianapolis, Swarbrick had been a finalist for the NCAA president’s job when it went to Myles Brand and has been a candidate for vacant athletic director positions at Ohio State and Arizona State in the past.

He was also rumored to be a candidate for the vacant Indiana University athletic director post.

According to his Baker & Daniels biography, he has been the general counsel for USA Gymnastics and USRowing.

He was vice president of the 2012 Super Bowl Committee, in which Indianapolis received the bid to host the game. He was also on the executive committee of the Indiana Sports Corporation, a competition director at the 1987 Pan American Games and was the Chairman of the 1991 World Gymnastics Championships.

Swarbrick was also the chairman and CEO of Novus Sport, an organization created in 2004 working with sports science and technology.
