Samardzija Shines, Weis Booed. 24 Hours In CubbieLand

By Michael Rothstein
The Journal Gazette

What a weekend to be in Indianapolis covering the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard with all this Notre Dame-related action happening a few hours to the north.

Jeff Samardzija gets called up to the Cubs, pitches two innings and receives four ovations during his short stint of work.

Then, this. Charlie Weis is invited to Wrigley Field to sing during the seventh-inning stretch Saturday.

And he's booed.

In addition to the story, Insights friend Kevin sent along this text describing the scene.

"At Wrigley," Kevin wrote. "They just BOOED THE (naughty word) out of Charlie Weis."

Probably not the best thing for the Notre Dame coach entering his fourth season. All Headline News said Weis appeared flustered by the booing, but eventually settled down. We're guessing a YouTube video will eventually make its way to the Web showing the booing, but nothing is up yet.

Oh, and the Cubs lost, 3-2, for the second straight day.

The Journal Gazette's Assistant Sports Editor Tony Krausz covers The University of Notre Dame. Krausz, a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism and a native of St. Louis, has been assistant sports editor since October 2005. Prior to joining the JG, he worked at two papers in Mississippi covering high school and college athletics.
