Clausen Potentially In Another Sticky Situation

By Michael Rothstein
The Journal Gazette

A year ago, the health of Jimmy Clausen's elbow was being debated -- along with his citation for being in a car with beer.

Now, pictures have surfaced of him along with teammates Brian Smith, James Aldridge and an unidentifiable fourth person at a party called "Beer Olympics," according to the Web site thebiglead.com, which posted the pictures Monday morning.

The problem is this -- two of the four athletes pictured (Clausen and Smith) -- are underage. Depending when the photos were taken, Aldridge may or may not have been as he turned 21 last month. While the pictures do not show any of the four actually consuming alcohol, it doesn't seem like they were avoiding it in any manner.

Where this could be a problem for Clausen and Co. is with du Lac, which on page 104 of its handbook considers abusive drinking to be participating in drinking games. This, of course, is prohibited.

This comes a little more than a year after Clausen was cited for transporting alcohol as a minor on June 23, 2007. It was part of an archaic Indiana law that said minors cannot be in the same car as alcohol. Clausen entered a pre-trial diversion program with the St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office.

Notre Dame had no comment Monday.
