Your Mid-Morning Break: Catching You Up On Notre Dame's World

By Michael Rothstein
The Journal Gazette

Just a little while now until football starts -- two days, actually -- so this spot will likely get very busy very soon.

Until then, though, we'll still find you the best links we've got.

  • Bad start for Shannon Boxx, Kate Markgraf and the U.S. women's soccer team in Beijing. It lost to Norway, 2-0, in the opening game of group play. Boxx and Markgraf started and it sounded like Markgraf made the error responsible for the Norwegian's second goal.
  • Notre Dame golfer Tyler Hock won something called the Summer Games in Ocala, Fla.
  • Former Notre Dame defensive lineman Derek Landri watched "Live Free, Die Hard" on Monday. Not a big deal, right? Well, except that he did it instead of morning practice Monday after being decreed by Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio, somewhat surprising him in the difference from Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis, writes Tania Ganguli of the Orlando Sentinel.
  • Former ND quarterback Zach Fraser could be pushing for the starting quarterback spot at Connecticut, writes Desmond Conner in the Hartford Courant. He took the first snaps in full contact practice with the Huskies.

The Journal Gazette's Assistant Sports Editor Tony Krausz covers The University of Notre Dame. Krausz, a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism and a native of St. Louis, has been assistant sports editor since October 2005. Prior to joining the JG, he worked at two papers in Mississippi covering high school and college athletics.
