Your Mid-Morning Break: Catching You Up On Notre Dame's World

By Michael Rothstein
The Journal Gazette

Howdy. I know it's been a little quiet around here the past few days -- we're preparing for football seasons, both high school and college -- but that'll change tomorrow as Notre Dame football media day begins. I'll be live-blogging, or as close as I can get to it, depending on the setup in South Bend.

With one day until camp, here's what's going on:

  • Syracuse stinks at football right now. Notre Dame is talking about setting up a 10-year deal with the Orange, writes Donnie Webb in the Syracuse Post-Standard. It'd be similar to the Rutgers deal -- five games in South Bend. Five games at Giants Stadium as Syracuse home games, which as a Syracuse alum, would be somewhat fair since the majority of the alumni base lives in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut or Pennsylvania.

  • Dayton Daily News writer Sean McClelland thinks Travis Thomas might have a big debut with the Cleveland Browns tonight against Team Favre (er, New York Jets), and then fade into obscurity.
  • Notre Dame baseball player A.J. Pollock was named the MVP of the Cape Cod League, the top summer wood bat league for college players.
  • Crysti Foote, a former Notre Dame All-American in women's lacrosse, is the new assistant coach at Columbia.
  • And if you're coming to Notre Dame football games this fall by train -- don't worry. You'll still have shuttle service to get there.

The Journal Gazette's Assistant Sports Editor Tony Krausz covers The University of Notre Dame. Krausz, a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism and a native of St. Louis, has been assistant sports editor since October 2005. Prior to joining the JG, he worked at two papers in Mississippi covering high school and college athletics.
