The Big East sent out its preseason awards and coaches poll for women's soccer Wednesday and not surprisingly, a Notre Dame player is the Preseason Offensive Player of the Year.
The surprise is which one. Midfielder/forward Brittany Bock, and not the much ballyhooed Kerri Hanks, is the league's pick for Player of the Year. Hanks, though, is the other Irish player on the Preseason All-Big East team as she closes in on 60 goals and 60 assists in her career.
Notre Dame was picked to win the National Division of the Big East, with West Virginia picked to win the American Division. The Irish didn't lose a Big East game last year and have been to two straight Final Fours.
All-Big East First Team: Greer Barnes, Sr., M, West Virginia; Carolyn Blank, Jr., M, West Virginia; Brittany Bock, Sr., M/F, Notre Dame; Amanda Cicchini, Sr., M, West Virginia; Geina DeMaio, Jr., M, Rutgers; Kelly Eagan, Jr., D, Villanova; Elizabeth Eng, Sr., F, Connecticut; Deana Everrett, Sr., F, West Virginia; Sara Jordan, Sr., M, Georgetown; Kerri Hanks, Sr., F, Notre Dame; Katie Kelly, Sr., D, Marquette; Stephanie Labbe, Sr., GK, Connecticut; Shannon Smyth, Sr., F, Louisville.
