Nick Boucher, who was in net when the Fort Wayne Komets won the Turner Cup last season, and who is expected to be the team’s No. 1 goalie this season, will have a tryout with Norfolk of the higher-level American Hockey League.
Norfolk is the top minor-league affiliate of the NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightning, but there will be at least four goalies in camp with that team.
Expecting Boucher will be back in Fort Wayne soon, Komets general manager David Franke said he has no plans to bring in another goalie to take Boucher’s spot. The Komets will re-evaluate things in about a week, however, in the event Boucher has a shot of making Norfolk’s roster.
Boucher will be joined in Norfolk by center Mathieu Curadeau and defenseman Jason Beckett, who are on two-way contracts with Norfolk and Fort Wayne, and defenseman Brent Henley, who is mulling over re-signing with the Komets.
Franke said Fort Wayne forward Dominic Osman will get a tryout with Worcester of the AHL, too.

Olympic swimmer Brendan Hansen lost his gold medal from the Beijing Games during a flight from Philadelphia to Texas but got it back a day later. Hansen informed Southwest Airlines, Philadelphia police and USA Swimming. A woman who found the medal on the floor in the back of the plane saw that it was from the relay event and contacted police, said Hansen’s mother, Miriam. Hansen met the woman, a college student, and gave her a “huge check,” Miriam Hansen said.
