The hair is gone, swept up in a garbage bag somewhere in South Bend, the flowing blond locks of sophomore quarterback Jimmy Clausen disappearing after Notre Dame's 23-7 loss to Michigan State on Saturday.
"I don't know why I really did it," Clausen said. "But one of the things I said was, I've been growing it out for a long time, I said if we lost, once we lost, I'd cut it off. Had to cut it off."
The Californian's trademark was replaced by a buzzcut, styled after Clausen buzzed off his own hair with the help of sophomore running back Armando Allen, who himself has very little hair on top of his head.
Clausen has always said he understood what it was like to be a Notre Dame quarterback with the scrutiny and attention, but to not the hair?
"It's interesting, actually," Clausen said. "But I just got a haircut."
