A former Wayne High School administrator was sentenced Friday to two years of prison and one year of probation for having sexual relations with a student at his school.
Kristopher Sennett, 36, pleaded guilty to two counts of child seduction, both Class D felonies, in July.
He had faced between six months and six years in prison. Because of the nature of the crime, he will spend his prison time in a sex offender unit.
Sennett was assistant principal at Wayne High School when the parents of a 17-year-old student went to Fort Wayne Community Schools administrators with a note written by their daughter to Sennett. In the note, the girl wrote about lying in Sennett's arms and kissing him.
The girl told investigators she had sex with Sennett at an area hotel in mid-February and engaged in other sexual activity at his home.
During the course of an investigation, e-mails from Sennett - written on his school computer - to the girl were uncovered.
According to state law, child seduction occurs when a person at least 18 years old and in a supervisory role, such as a school district worker, has sex with or engages in sexual acts with someone ages 16 to 18.
Because Sennett pleaded guilty without a plea agreement, he can appeal the sentence imposed by Allen Superior Judge John Surbeck.
Suspended by district officials initially, the school board fired Sennett in March. He will have to register as a sex offender under Indiana law for the next 10 years.
