Practice Observations: 10/8/08

By Michael Rothstein
The Journal Gazette

Kinda cold as the rain held off just enough Wednesday as Notre Dame continued practicing for its road trip to North Carolina this weekend. The team, by the way, will leave Friday.

  • Coaches firing good-natured barbs at the media today. Insights was smart to get out of the way. Brian Polian, the always affable special teams coach, spotted Tim Prister of Irish Illustrated wearing an Arizona sweatshirt. He immediately started digging in:

"Old Navy. Aeropostale," Polian lamented. "Wear something neutral."

Doubt that Prister, a Notre Dame grad, is an avid supporter of the Wildcats. More than likely, he was just pretty cold.

  • Wide receivers coach Rob Ianello chatted with George West and Robby Parris.

  • Terrail Lambert took a quick moment away to get re-taped with Jim Russ, the Notre Dame trainer.
  • Tight ends coach Bernie Parmalee chided Will Yeatman -- who still has no resolution to his legal or school issues -- for his blocking techniques.
  • Overall, a fairly quiet day. Not much yelling. Not much excitement, either. Not sure if that's good or bad.
It's a short one today. Don't forget to send your predictions in for the final score contest. Had a winner last week. Also, we'll have a Mailbag tomorrow afternoon, so get those questions in to mrothstein@jg.net.
