Primer on Going Out at UNC

By Michael Rothstein
The Journal Gazette

So you're heading to Chapel Hill this weekend and never been, much like Insights. Don't worry. Insights has got you covered.

Insights roommate Lee graduated from the school not too long ago and offers these helpful suggestions to make sure you have fun on Tobacco Road.

UNC Restaurants:

Top of the Hill 100 E Franklin St # 3, Chapel Hill - (919) 929-8676

This is one of the best restaurants in Chapel Hill with a great view of Franklin St. This is a good place to end up after the game because a lot of alumni will be there and a bit of an older crowd (23-29). It's a bit more expensive than the rest of Franklin Street but I always have a good time.

Spanky's 101 E Franklin St, Chapel Hill - (919) 929-5098

Right across the street is this restaurant, which will probably have the same crowd as Top of the Hill, but it is smaller and I would recommend ending your night here. The food is amazing though.

Time-Out 133 W Franklin St # D, Chapel Hill - (919) 929-2425

For late night food… go here!

Monterey's 237 S Elliott Rd, Chapel Hill - (919) 969-8750

This is one of the most popular Mexican restaurants in Chapel Hill.

Tyler's 102 Main St, Chapel Hill - (919) 929-6881‎

This is a personal favorite, and the chips are to die for.

411 West 411 W Franklin St, Chapel Hill - (919) 967-2782

This is a great sit-down restaurant and probably my next favorite place to eat.

UNC Nightlife:

Tallulah's 456 W Franklin St, Chapel Hill - (919) 933-1177

This restaurant is on the west end of Franklin where there are a lot of lounges as opposed to bars and clubs. This is a good lounge for live music, and drinks are cheaper. It's a bit of a walk from Top of the Hill and where more people tend to wander around but it's worth a look.

La Residence 202 W Rosemary St, Chapel Hill - (919) 967-2506

This is a great place to end up. The weather should be good so expect for them to open up the terrace.

Player's 159 1/2 E Franklin St, Chapel Hill - (919) 929-0101

This is a nightclub that is owned by athletes. Trust me, it is a must-see and you will know where is because there is always a line. It is worth the wait, and remember to try the signature holy grail. It closes at 2 am.
