Rod Smith’s three touchdown runs of at least 55 yards spurred his 300-yard, record-setting performance and Harding’s 39-13 victory over visiting Concordia on Friday.
Smith, a junior, already became the Hawks’ all-time rushing leader this season. His 300 yards rushing on 26 carries is the school’s single-game record.
Smith had touchdown runs of 55, 60 and 95 yards, all in the second half.
Harding’s Austin Coleman caught four passes for 166 yards and two touchdowns.
WAYNE 21, NORTHROP 17: Jordan Patterson’s 44-yard TD pass to Miquael Banks with 1:53 remaining lifted the visiting Generals.
Wayne limited the Bruins to minus 7 yards on the first three plays of the ensuing drive, and Northrop turned the ball over on downs with just more than one minute to play.
Patterson completed 7 of 8 passes for 184 yards. Teammate De’jrick Smith led the team on the ground with 98 yards and two TDs.
LEO 21, GARRETT 7: Kyle Marzec caught two passes, both touchdowns, and Connor Kacsor sealed the victory with a late touchdown for the Lions on the road.
Kacsor, who had a 23-yard TD with 1:11 left, had 83 yards rushing.
HOMESTEAD 49, NORWELL 7: Logan Laughlin threw three touchdown passes and ran for another in the Spartans’ home rout.
BISHOP LUERS 40, ELMHURST 0: Danny Alvarez rushed for two touchdowns as the host Knights kept the Trojans winless.
COLUMBIA CITY 16, CARROLL 13: Justin Simms’ 32-yard field with 15 seconds remaining sparked the host Eagles.
EAST NOBLE 42, NEW HAVEN 12: A.J. Dove completed 13 of 19 passes for 205 yards and two touchdowns in the Knights’ road win.
Frank Lloyd led New Haven with 91 yards rushing.
SOUTH ADAMS 27, WOODLAN 6: Kyle DeArmond rushed for 164 yards and two touchdowns as the Starfires won at home.
SOUTHERN WELLS 23, HERITAGE 17: Jacob Miller’s 2-yard TD run in the fourth quarter helped the unbeaten and Class 1A No. 8 Raiders stave off a road upset.
Southern Wells led 17-0 at halftime before the Patriots stormed back with 17 third-quarter points. Heritage’s Reid Yoder had a pair of TD runs in the quarter – and finished with a game-high 170 yards.
