ND-Pitt At The Half: Records Fall And A Real Two-Minute

By Michael Rothstein
The Journal Gazette

Another week, another record for freshman receiver Michael Floyd.

Floyd, who caught two touchdown passes in the second quarter to help Notre Dame to a 17-3 halftime lead on Pittsburgh, also set the Notre Dame freshman record for catches by a receiver.

Floyd now has 38 catches, breaking Duval Kamara's record of 34 set last year.

Also, Kyle Rudolph now has the most catches for a freshman tight end with 15, one more than Ken McAfee in 1974.

Golden Tate also put in for his weekly play of the season, making a catch after a ball  tipped off of him, then off Pitt cornerback Aaron Berry and safety Dom DeCicco and back to Tate.

He has one of these every week. It really is unbelievable.

Notre Dame's two touchdowns, both from Clausen to Floyd, came in the final 1:27 of the first half. Clausen found Floyd over the middle on a play where the Pitt cornerback fell for the first touchdown and then, after a Raeshon McNeil interception, Clausen found Floyd again on an out route to the right, making the score 17-3.

Overall, an impressive first half for Notre Dame.

Quick note: Both David Grimes and Brian Smith played in the second quarter.
