In two weeks, the café at the downtown library will reopen as a Dunkin’ Donuts.
Owners of the current shop, The Brickhouse Café and Creamery, plan to turn the space into a Dunkin’ Donuts franchise, said Cheryl Ferverda, spokeswoman for the Allen County Public Library.
The Brickhouse closed Friday afternoon for construction to begin.
The library has leased the space to Gavin and Kim Hart since the main building reopened in 2007. The library’s contract with the Harts hasn’t changed despite the new name, Ferverda said.
The Harts operate six Dairy Queen restaurants and opened a Dunkin’ Donuts in July.
They have previously announced plans to open 19 more Dunkin’ Donuts in northeast Indiana.
The remodeling will add the business’s colors and signage along with a doughnut display case to the café area.
A kitchen area on the lower levels of the library will be reconfigured to allow for the business’s products to be received, prepared and stored, Ferverda said.
The menu will include pastries, cookies, muffins, flatbread sandwiches and pizzas along with coffee and pop – similar to the options that were found at the Brickhouse, Ferverda said.
A grand re-opening is planned for Nov. 24.
In the meantime, the Twice Sold Tales section of the café will move out into the east-side lobby area, she said.
