The pocket design on a pair of jeans helped Fort Wayne detectives arrest a man accused of robbing a gas station in October.
Dametrick M. Gray, 22, of the 4300 block of Austin Drive, was formally charged Thursday with one count of robbery.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Gray used a revolver to rob the BP gas station at 6111 Bluffton Road on Oct. 19. He threw a bag at the clerk demanding that he fill it.
A witness saw a video of the gas station robbery on TV several weeks later and recognized a distinctive design on the rear jeans pocket the suspect was wearing that matched a pair of jeans Gray owns. The witnesses told police that Gray had also admitted he was in the video, court records said.
Police found a pair of jeans with the same distinctive pocket during a search of Gray’s personal property. The clerk also picked Gray out of a photo lineup, and police found a revolver in Gray’s vehicle during a traffic stop, court records said.
