Haywood To Interview at Washington

By Michael Rothstein
The Journal Gazette

Notre Dame offensive coordinator Michael Haywood is interviewing for the vacant job at the University of Washington, multiple reports are saying.

Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis took over playcalling last week after the death of Haywood's cousin and retained the duties this week due to another personal issue Haywood declined to discuss.

According to Rivals.com, which first broke the story, Haywood was scheduled to arrive in Seattle late Wednesday.

Haywood is interviewing for the job that will be vacated by former Notre Dame head coach Tyrone Willingham at the end of the season. The fourth-year Irish coordinator was given playcalling duties this year for the first time by Weis.

Haywood has connections at Washington. New athletic director Scott Woodward is a close friend and university president Mark Emmert was the chancellor at LSU when Haywood was an assistant with the Tigers.

The Journal Gazette's Assistant Sports Editor Tony Krausz covers The University of Notre Dame. Krausz, a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism and a native of St. Louis, has been assistant sports editor since October 2005. Prior to joining the JG, he worked at two papers in Mississippi covering high school and college athletics.
