ND-SU End Third: ND Pulls Away

By Michael Rothstein
The Journal Gazette

Golden Tate is single-handedly saving Notre Dame football on this cold Saturday where even the press box is fogging up.

The sophomore wide receiver has two touchdowns -- and he has had to make plays on both balls --- to give the Irish a 23-10 lead over Syracuse.

However, Notre Dame currently has 33 yards. Syracuse has allowed 209.2 yards a game on the ground.

So, that should tell you something.

Sophomore Jimmy Clausen is almost at Syracuse's average passing yards, though. Almost.

Meanwhile, early in the third, Syracuse is driving on Notre Dame. Still doubt Syracuse will win, but it could get interesting.

The Journal Gazette's Assistant Sports Editor Tony Krausz covers The University of Notre Dame. Krausz, a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism and a native of St. Louis, has been assistant sports editor since October 2005. Prior to joining the JG, he worked at two papers in Mississippi covering high school and college athletics.
