ND-SU at the Half: Still not Pretty

By Michael Rothstein
The Journal Gazette

Not a pretty first half for Notre Dame.

The Irish have a 13-10 lead, but they have been outplayed for the most part by a Syracuse team that is playing more inspired than anything else.

A last-second touchdown (two seconds, really) from Jimmy Clausen to Golden Tate gave Notre Dame its first lead in a while.

Clausen is 13 of 18 for 137 yards, but hasn't looked particularly sharp. The running game has been non-existent, averaging two yards a carry.

Notre Dame will probably win this game, but the Irish aren't making it easy on themselves.

And in the world of bad puns, the PA announcer just said something about Green always beating Orange, referring to today's Carbon-Neutrality Act of going green.

The Journal Gazette's Assistant Sports Editor Tony Krausz covers The University of Notre Dame. Krausz, a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism and a native of St. Louis, has been assistant sports editor since October 2005. Prior to joining the JG, he worked at two papers in Mississippi covering high school and college athletics.
