SU-ND End First: Not Pretty Football

By Michael Rothstein
The Journal Gazette

This, dear readers, is not pretty football.

Notre Dame and Syracuse are tied at 3-3 after one quarter and one team looks like they are playing hard.

And it isn't the Irish.

Notre Dame returned to its typical 4th-and-short woes, with James Aldridge being stuffed for a loss on a 4th-and-2 from the Syracuse 35-yard line.

Best play of the half -- a halfback pass from Syracuse running back Antwon Bailey to sophomore wide receiver Dan Sheeran.

Either way, Notre Dame playing like this can't inspire Gator Bowl President Rick Catlett, who is in attendance today.

The Journal Gazette's Assistant Sports Editor Tony Krausz covers The University of Notre Dame. Krausz, a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism and a native of St. Louis, has been assistant sports editor since October 2005. Prior to joining the JG, he worked at two papers in Mississippi covering high school and college athletics.
