Former Snider standout Artis Chambers confirmed Saturday he is leaving the Michigan football program.

“I am discussing the situation with my family,” Chambers said by phone.

Chambers was not in Columbus for the Ohio State-Michigan game, and his Facebook status was changed to “No longer a Wolverine.”

Chambers left the 3-9 team after limited playing time as a sophomore and a freshman season cut short by eligibility issues.

The 6-foot-2, 202-pound sophomore safety enrolled at Michigan in the spring of 2007. Four games into his freshman year, with Chambers playing on special teams, Michigan declared him ineligible because of a mistake by the school regarding Big Ten freshmen-eligibility rules.

Chambers played quarterback, defensive back and punter for the Panthers. He earned All-SAC and Class 5A All-State first-team honors. He was a nominee for the state’s Mr. Football award as a senior.
