Your Mid-Morning Break: Bad To Be A Former Charlie Weis QB

By Michael Rothstein
The Journal Gazette

One day until Thanksgiving: Happy Thanksgiving everyone as Insights will likely be pretty quiet tomorrow while we watch football, eat turkey and rest a bunch.

But you might still be at work today, so here are some links to get you through:

  • Drew Bledsoe and Jimmy Clausen should be concerned. At the rate it's going, it is bad to be a Charlie Weis quarterback this year. First Tom Brady tears his ACL and is out for the year. Now, Brady Quinn -- who finally got a shot as a starter -- broke his right index finger and is done for the season.
  • Teddy Greenstein of the Chicago Tribune reports Charlie Weis' buyout figures are lower than most expect, which could ultimately lead to an easier undoing for the Notre Dame football coach.
  • Bill Plaschke of the Los Angeles Times talks to Notre Dame's senior class president, who says the university has lost faith in its football coach.
  • Riley Sheahan will play hockey at Notre Dame.
  • At least one guy thinks Brian Kelly will stay at Cincinnati instead of heading to Tennessee. Why is this here? If Weis is fired, Kelly could be on the short list of replacements.
  • Notre Dame's men's basketball team beat No. 7 Texas on Tuesday in Maui. Tonight, the Irish will play No. 1 North Carolina.
  • Jeff Miller of the Orange County Register is calling this game a dud.
  • Gregg Patton of The Press-Enterprise says Notre Dame-USC isn't a rivalry anymore.
  • Mike Imrem of the Daily Herald compared Gerry Faust to Charlie Weis.

The Journal Gazette's Assistant Sports Editor Tony Krausz covers The University of Notre Dame. Krausz, a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism and a native of St. Louis, has been assistant sports editor since October 2005. Prior to joining the JG, he worked at two papers in Mississippi covering high school and college athletics.
