No Haywood in Washington

By Michael Rothstein
The Journal Gazette

To the surprise of no one, Notre Dame offensive coordinator Michael Haywood will not be the next head coach at the University of Washington.

Haywood, if you remember, interviewed at the school the week before the Irish's 24-23 loss to Syracuse and gave Charlie Weis the reason to take back playcalling for the rest of the regular season.

Haywood, who had been a finalist for the Houston and Minnesota jobs in years past, apparently was not a finalist in Washington.

The Huskies will hire USC offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian according to ESPN's Joe Schad. Not surprising a school would want to take someone and try to emulate USC.

After all, the Trojans are the gold standard program on the West Coast and maybe the country (although Oklahoma, Florida and Texas would probably like to argue that point right now).

The Journal Gazette's Assistant Sports Editor Tony Krausz covers The University of Notre Dame. Krausz, a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism and a native of St. Louis, has been assistant sports editor since October 2005. Prior to joining the JG, he worked at two papers in Mississippi covering high school and college athletics.
