Former Notre Dame offensive coordinator Michael Haywood was officially announced as the new head coach at Miami (Ohio) on Tuesday and, as part of his duties, he sat down and spoke with various media members.
One of those people was the hometown Oxford Press, which ran a brief question-and-answer session with the Notre Dame grad.
Most of the published portion of the interview centered around the Texas native, his vision and the recruits he's spoken with. However, at the end, came the obligatory question about Notre Dame.
And needless to say, it raised Insights' eyebrow a hair.
When asked about Notre Dame's offensive inconsistency, Haywood said it wasn't because of the young players but due to the complicated nature of the offense.
Remember, Notre Dame lost four of six games to end the regular season and the final three games were called by current Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis.
"(The inconsistency) really wasn't due to the players," Haywood said in the Oxford Press. "Our major problem was that we made the offense too complicated late in the season. In the time we had off before the bowl game we were able to repair the confidence the quarterback had in our offense, and also the confidence all the other players had."
Not sure what to make of this, other than to wonder if the Irish force fed too much offensive knowledge to a still-young team after the North Carolina game.
