Kerri Hanks said Thursday she didn't think she'd win the Hermann Trophy, college soccer's equivalent to the Heisman Trophy, for the second time.
Turns out, Hanks was wrong.
The former Notre Dame forward won the award for the second time in three years, becoming only the fourth woman to win the Hermann twice in her career, joining Mia Hamm, Cindy Parlow and Christine Sinclair.
Hanks finished her Notre Dame career in December holding or tying 67 school records and is the only women's soccer player in Division I history to have at least 73 goals and 73 assists in her career.
The Allen, Texas native beat out North Carolina's Casey Nogueira, who Hanks thought would win the award, and UCLA's Christina DiMartino.
