The United Steelworkers and other labor groups will lead a series of rallies focused on middle-class and labor concerns.

One of the “Rebuild America: Main Street Revolution” rallies will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Kosciusko County Courthouse, 100 W. Center St., Warsaw.

The Steelworkers want people to turn out and show support for spending U.S. tax dollars on U.S. products; investing tax dollars in U.S. manufacturing and infrastructure jobs; developing incentives to create and retain U.S. jobs; and making it easier to unionize.

“It may or may not be the Obama plan,” said Teri Luna, of United Steelworkers District 7, Sub District 4, when asked whether the goal was to advance President Obama’s stimulus plan. “We need better jobs and better health care and a lot of other things, and that’s what we’re pushing for.”

Members of the United Auto Workers and labor-affiliated group Jobs With Justice also will participate in the rally.

The Steelworkers are leading similar rallies Saturday at the Tippecanoe County Courthouse in Lafayette and at the Logansport City Building. Others are planned Feb. 28, March 14 and March 28.

The rallies are part of a national effort the steelworkers are leading in conjunction with the AFL-CIO, Luna said.
