Insights is happy to welcome our second athlete blogger, Notre Dame sophomore wide reciever/outfielder Golden Tate, joining Notre Dame basketball player Ryan Ayers. Tate, who plays football in the fall and baseball in the spring, will periodically blog for Insights throughout the spring. This is Tate's first entry. Insights thanks him for taking the time to do this.

We're on the way to Florida! I might be the happiest guy alive. I get a chance to go down south, closer to my neck of the woods, and play one of America's favorite sports -- baseball. I also plan on getting my "golden" complexion back. Ha. I figured we would start off by talking about my weekend, which wasn't much because we had practice on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. and Sunday at noon. But, there were a couple of interesting events on campus.

Friday night, I attended hip-hop night at Legends. It is a place where Notre Dame, St. Mary's and Holy Cross students are able to go and dance. Obviously, I didn't go by myself. I showed up with Ian Williams, Santa Clausen, Emeka Nwankwo, Brian Smith and a couple other guys from the football team. It was a decent scene of people there dancing having a great time. Later that night, I stopped by Reckers and ate a barbeque chicken pizza, which was tasty and fattening, but at the time I did not care. I just was very hungry.

Before every practice, I always pray to God asking him to help us out by not letting us run because people do not know that I, Golden Tate, have awful endurance. I know, I know. You are wondering how in the heck do I have bad endurance when I can run so fast. That is a question that still hasn't been answered. Anyway, so I make it through practice and it comes to an end and I look up at the clock and see that we still have 20 minutes left in Loftus. In my head, I start yelling at myself because that's when I realize that I should have stayed in last night with my roommates Greg Sherry, Brian Dupra, Ty Adams, Dustin Zhang, Sean Rober and our adopted roomy Billy Boockford and watched Grandma's Boy. Yes, we ran for a long time and I couldn't feel my legs and we still have to face live pitching.

Moving on to my roommates, these are a group of great kids and I love them to death. Greg Sherry is an infielder on the baseball team. He is one of the louder and more enthusiastic kids, the life of the party. Brian is a pitcher and absolutely throws heat. He is a tall kid who is chill and just listens and laughs at all of us.

Mr. Ty Adams is for sure the pretty boy. Let's just say he loves himself, and I would too if I looked like him. Ty is an outfielder; he is about 6'4 I'm guessing. Ty is the spokesperson of the group and analyzes everything. Dustin is a golfer for Notre Dame. I'm not sure how good yet because I haven't attended a match or tourney yet. He is a great kid, more of a keep to himself person.

Billy Boockford, the adopted roommate, participates in pillow talk before we go to sleep. He is also an outfielder. He is a pretty strong guy. We call him skates because he runs like he is skating but slower. Billy is the goofy kid of the group that has everyone laughing all the time.

Finally, we have Sean Rober… aka… "Robedaddy" is what we call him. Ha-ha!! This guy is absolutely hilarious. He doesn't play a sport but is a smart kid who might be the top of our class. Rober has all of us laughing every time we see him. For instance, he always uses weird sayings that he thinks are funny but aren't, but because he is Rober it is funny. Unfortunately, you will have to hear him say them because they may not be print material type stuff. Rober is awesome.

Well, time to actually get my life together and study and eat some more but I will talk to you folks hopefully in a few days. Figured I would introduce the people that are in my everyday life first.

Golden, you don't know me but I attended school with your father at Tennessee St.. (1984)He was also a great receiver. When I first heard the name Golden Tate playing for the Irish 2 years ago, I didn't think, wow, is he related to the Golden Tate that played at Tennessee St? and then I thought, maybe I should do some more resarch. And when I did, I said, wow he's Golden Tate's son. This is amazing! Your father played the same way. He was tough as nails. He would come across the middle the same way you do now.

Keep it going...I watch all of Notre Dame football games. And let me tell you, you are a split image of your father...
