Schools to debut garden

The University of Saint Francis and Most Precious Blood School’s new “Discovery Garden” is designed to bring nature to students’ fingertips.

Both schools will unveil the garden, which features maize and squash, in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11:45 a.m. Friday at Most Precious Blood School, 1529 Barthold St.

Mayor Tom Henry and representatives from the Fort Wayne Police Department, University of Saint Francis and Indiana Department of Natural Resources will be on hand.

Students and staff from the University of Saint Francis and Most Precious Blood created the garden, which was funded by part of a GreenWorks! grant. Along with plants and vegetables, the garden will feature mosaic-tile steppingstones made by students at Most Precious Blood and signs made of slate tiles from a convent roof.
