Deer crash injuries fatal for motorcyclist
A Fort Wayne man critically wounded in a motorcycle crash last week has died.
George Welsh, 46, died Friday at Parkview Hospital as a result of multiple blunt-force trauma suffered in the June 24 crash, according to the Allen County Coroners Office.
Welsh was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle west on Interstate 469, just east of where it intersects with Interstate 69 on the citys northeast side, when a deer darted into the road, striking his bike, Fort Wayne police said.
Welsh suffered head injuries and was taken to a hospital in critical condition after the crash. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, police said.
Police said the deer died at the scene. The crash remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne-Allen County Crash Team.
According to his obituary, Welsh worked as a machinist with B&J Specialties.
