Killed cyclist ID’d as Avilla resident

Noble County authorities Thursday released the name of a bicyclist killed in a crash the day before.

The crash involving the bicyclist and a vehicle was reported just after noon on Old Indiana 3 near Noble County Road 400 South, just north of LaOtto, according to Noble County sheriff’s deputies.

The bicyclist, identified as Talia J. Smith, 20, of Avilla, died at the scene, police said.

Smith was riding a bicycle north on Old Indiana 3 when she was struck by a vehicle also heading north. The driver of the vehicle, Kirk A. Weeks, 48, of Albion, was taken to Parkview Whitley Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash is under investigation.
