Two more men have been charged with helping to steal copper wire from railroad property in New Haven.
Parenel T. Willcutts and David M. Borkenstein were each charged with a single theft count Thursday in Allen Superior Court.
New Haven police caught three men taking copper wire from Norfolk Southern property near Home Lumber over Memorial Day weekend, court papers said.
When the officer made contact with the three men, they were rolling copper wire onto four spools, and the officer found at least six more spools of copper wire in the bed of a pickup truck.
Willcutts, 27, of the 2000 block of Neuhaus Drive, told police he was unaware that they didn’t have permission to take the wire, but that he did help take it.
Borkenstein, 57, of the 1100 block of Charlotte Avenue, later called railroad police and said the two other men had no idea they were stealing the copper wire because Borkenstein told them he had permission to take it, a probable cause affidavit said.
Craig A. Willcutts was charged with theft Wednesday after he admitted to police that he helped take the wire off poles using extension ladders.
All three men were released from the Allen County Lockup on their own recognizance.
