Winter storm headed for northern Indiana

The first winter storm of the season is expected Thursday night and Friday morning, with 1 to 2 inches of snow expected throughout northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio, the National Weather Service said today.

In a winter weather advisory, the weather service said strong winds of 25 to 35 mph, with gusts of 40 to 50 mph, are expected to cause heavy blowing snow between 4 p.m. Thursday and 7 p.m. Friday. Visibility will be limited and travelers should use caution, especially in open areas, it said.

Rain is expected to change to snow quickly Thursday evening, and travel may become very difficult, the weather service said. Minor wind damage and sporadic power outages may occur, it said.
