Diocese honors Helmke

Paul Helmke, Fort Wayne mayor from 1988 to 2000, receives the Father Tom O’Connor Light of Christ Award on Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Helmke, former head of the Brady Center to Prevent Violence, was honored for his leadership in public policy and nonviolence. O’Connor was St. Mary’s pastor from 1970 to 2004.
