Power restored after outage

About 7:15 p.m. this evening, Indiana Michigan Power was directed to drop electrical load to some customers in northwest Allen County. Power was restored an hour later, an I&M official said.

PJM Interconnection ordered I&M to drop power to a circuit affecting about 3,300 customers in an area near Cook and Lima roads. PJM is responsible for mitigating congestion on the transmission system caused by high customer electricity demand along with other functions. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission requires that I&M and all regulated electric utilities belong to a Regional Transmission Organization to manage the electric grid. PJM is the organization I&M and some other Midwestern and Eastern utilities belong to, I&M said.

PJM is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the power grid, and I&M is required to immediately respond to its directives, I&M said

The outage was due, at least in part, to the unusually hot mid-September weather, which caused an increase in demand for electricity, the utility said.
