Sheriff's Deputies in LaGrange arrested two men Saturday night on various charges relating to methamphetamine and possessing a firearm, according to the LaGrange County Sheriff's Department.
Those arrested--David C. Shaffer, 21, of Howe and Roderick E. Barnell, 19, of Vicksburg, Mich.--were stopped by police around 10:45 p.m. in the area of 1145 E. 700 N while driving a black pick up southbound on County Road 125 East, the statement said.
Police found two firearms inside the truck in plain view and said the men were spotlighting deer, according to the statement.
When police searched the truck, they found three firearms (one of which was loaded), a handheld spotlight, two meth labs, meth chemicals and about eight grams of a substance believed to be meth, the statement said.
Both men were arrested, and Barnell is currently being held without bond, according to the statement.
The sheriff's department said Barnell was charged with possessing and manufacturing meth. Shaffer was charged with visiting a common nuisance and use of artificial lights while in possession of a firearm.
