Arrest made in dollar store theft

A 21-year-old Fort Wayne man was arrested Tuesday morning after police said he robbed the Dollar General Store on Lima Road.

According to the Fort Wayne Police Department, Alexander White, 21, was arrested on a single charge of armed robbery. He was nabbed just over an hour after a “lone gunman” walked into the Dollar General Store, 9149 Lima Road, and demanded cash from an employee.

The robber left the store on foot, and a Fort Wayne police K-9 officer and his dog tracked the man to a vacant house about 500 yards away.

Fresh footprints in the snow leading to an unlocked rear door of the vacant house led officers to surround the house, and the Emergency Services Team also responded, police said.

About 9:40 a.m., White was taken into custody, and evidence from the robbery left inside the house was collected by police, officials said.

White was preliminarily charged with armed robbery.
