Collapsed floor troubles firefighters

A hole in the floor caused problems for firefighters battling a blaze at a Beaver Avenue home Sunday night.

Fort Wayne firefighters were called to the home at 4223 Beaver Ave. just before midnight.

They were met by a fire in the home’s basement and first floor.

As firefighters entered the home, they found a large hole that caused them to back out.

Firefighters searched the upstairs for victims but found no one – the home was vacant or abandoned, the department said.

There was heavy damage to the home, and it took nearly an hour to bring the blaze under control.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
