SELLERSBURG - About 150 additional state troopers will hit Indiana highways during the upcoming July 4 holiday weekend.

State police will be taking part in federally funded programs that allow increased police patrols to reduce accidents and target impaired or unsafe drivers from July 3 through July 7.

State police say troopers will be on the lookout for impaired drivers, motorists who speed, follow too closely, make unsafe lane changes, drive aggressively, and fail to wear seat belts or properly restrain their children.

State police say five people were killed in crashes on Indiana roadways during the holiday driving period last year. Indiana Criminal Justice Institute statistics show there were 131 alcohol-related crashes during the July 4 holiday in 2008.
