Willie Davis will coach indoor football in Fort Wayne again.

Davis was hired to coach the potential new team, the Fort Wayne Firehawks, according to a news release sent by co-owner and general manager John Christner. Davis coached the Freedom in 2008 before being fired midseason. Davis later filed a lawsuit against Fort Wayne Sports Partners LLC seeking back pay, among other things.

“Coach Davis is the right man at the right time for this job,” Christner said in a statement. “He understands professional indoor football. He builds a strong relationship with the players. He has demonstrated his passion for the game for many years.”

Davis, who is an assistant coach at Woodlan, likely will be introduced at a news conference in early December, the release said.
