Bishop Dwenger (13-0) at Lowell (12-1): The Saints and Red Devils have played in the Class 4A semistate each of the past two years. Two years ago, Lowell won 10-7 at home, while Dwenger won last season 38-22 at Zollner Stadium. The Saints (13-0) come into the game ranked second, while the Red Devils (12-1) are No. 7. It will be a battle of top-notch running backs, with the Saints’ Remound Wright going for 181 yards and four total touchdowns last week, while Lowell’s Brandon Grubbe ran for 167 yards and four scores. Both teams won their regionals pretty easily, Dwenger beating Delta 49-12 and Lowell knocking off Hammond Morton 42-0.
Rensselaer Central (11-2) at Bishop Luers (8-5): Judging by the regional results, these two teams have opposite styles. The Bombers beat Fairfield 35-0, while the Knights hooked up with Cass in a wild one that Luers won 54-53 in two overtimes. Renssealer ran wild in the regional win over Fairfield, rushing for almost 400 yards. Justin Bohanon had 160 yards and Ben Ahler ran for 137 yards. The youngsters got it done for the Knights in a win over Cass with sophomore quarterback James Knapke throwing four scores, while freshman Jaylon Smith had three touchdowns. A win would send Luers into its state-record 12th state championship. The Knights have a 7-4 record in the previous 11.
Lafayette Central Catholic (13-0) at Southern Wells (11-2): The Knights notched their eighth shutout of the season, beating Culver 56-0 in the regional championship. The Knights have given up only 29 points total this season, including 19 in the postseason. Knights quarterback Chris Mills was 8 for 8 for 173 yards and two touchdowns. He has 8,962 career passing yards, good for No. 5 in state history. It will be a tough challenge for the Raiders, who beat Knightstown 41-14 in the regional. The Raiders have won nine consecutive games since suffering back-to-back losses to Garrett and Leo early in the season. Jacob Miller scored three times and Kyle Jones twice for Southern Wells, which are in the semistate for the second straight season.
