Jill Nichols and her professional partner Tony Didier won the 2009 Dancing with the Fort Wayne Stars.

Hy Plimpton, Judy Lindsay, County Commissioner Bill Brown, the Fort Wayne Urban League, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office, Coca-Cola, Raytheon, Target and Do it Best Corp. were honored as Literacy Champions by the United Way of Allen County for their work with Learn United.

•Allen County 4-H Clubs honored Bonnie Kemp, Bob Warner and Megan Warner, all of Fort Wayne, and Kelly VanHorn of Monroeville as first-year volunteers; Charlene Brandell and Cheryl Mudrack, both of Fort Wayne, as fifth-year volunteers; Tracy Showman, New Haven, as a 10th-year volunteer; Mike Hallien, Fort Wayne, Marianne Hammon, Woodburn, and John Platt and Marilyn Platt, both of Roanoke, as 20th-year volunteers; and Robert Hart and Vicki Weigold, both of Fort Wayne, as 25th-year volunteers.

Feeding the hungry

Kroger is selling reusable “Bringing Hope To the Table” shopping bags through December for $1.99, with $1.30 from each bag sold going to Community Harvest Food Bank.

NAI Harding Dahm, 118 E. Ludwig Road, and Smith Field Airport, 426 W. Ludwig Road, are new drop-off sites for donations to Community Harvest Food Bank through Dec. 17.

•The Fun 101.7 Stuff-A-Bus Radiothon and food drive will be accepting donations of non-perishable food items at Georgetown Square from 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday and Tuesday and 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Donations will be given to the Associated Churches Food Bank of Fort Wayne.

The Franciscan Center, 4643 Gaywood Drive, will be handing out turkeys and hams from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday to those in need. For information or to make a donation of ham or money, call 744-3977.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division is selling pins for $5. Proceeds will be given to organizations such as Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry to offset the cost of processing donations that will be donated to area food banks.

Thanksgiving meals

The Fort Wayne Rescue Mission, 301 W. Superior St., is offering a free all-you-can-eat Thanksgiving Day buffet at 7 a.m., noon and 5 p.m. For information, call 426-7357 or e-mail eddy@rescueministries.us.

Mary’s Catholic Church, 1101 S. Lafayette St., will host its annual Thanksgiving Day Soup Kitchen dinner Thursday. Mass will be at 9 a.m., dinner will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and carry-outs will be available at 1 p.m. For information or to volunteer, call 749-1623.

Pontiac Mall and Kingdom Door Christian Worship Center are providing a Thanksgiving dinner at 1108 E. Pontiac St. at noon Thursday. Donations of food and paper products can be taken to Mattie Mae’s Café in the Pontiac Mall. For information or to volunteer, call 399-0729 or 449-9744.
