Hal Hunter, former offensive line coach of the Indianapolis Colts, was named head coach on December 13, 1984, after Frank Kush resigned to become head coach of the Arizona Outlaws of the United States Football League. Hunter, a Colts assistant coach for three years, finished the season as interm coach.
